The remodel of this stunning timber frame at Fernie Alpine Resort revitalized the existing residence and modernized the home, while addressing structural concerns and adding a spacious two-storey addition perfect for both family getaways and holistic retreats. The expansion seamlessly incorporated the original carport log structure and included a brand new wraparound deck that overlooks the Timber Chair access trail.
This 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom executive cabin now features an array of wellness amenities, including a dedicated ski gear room, a massage room, a sauna, and a gym space.
The project faced several key challenges, including the reintegration of original logs to achieve a cohesive, finished look. Geotechnical issues and site water mitigation required careful attention to ensure structural integrity.
The Freestone team had to overcome numerous construction and structural challenges from the original build. Timber rot, resulting from poor maintenance, needed to be addressed, while managing construction during winter weather. Phased construction was implemented to allow homeowners to remain in occupancy while work was ongoing, ensuring minimal disruption.
